Have you ever encountered an issue with Microsoft Store? Especially the one when you’ve just re-installed your Windows 11 OS? Unfortunately, this occurred on one of my test devices. As the device just completed a clean-installation of Windows 11 Pro but when open up Microsoft Store – it pop up error message says “Something bad happened, unknown layout specified in manifest.”. Well, it sounds like bit intimidate however it can resolve easily.

To resolve this issue you may following below steps:
1.Press “Windows logo key + I” to open Settings > Apps > locate “Microsoft Store” > click the ellipsis > Advanced options.

2.Click “Repair” button.

3.Once completed click “Reset” button.

4.When above actions are completed > re-launch Microsoft Store app. By the time you should saw such error disappeared, but when you click somewhere else you might still find this error popped up.

5. So, if that’s the case, then click the ellipsis on the upper right corner of the Microsoft Store app > make sure the “Auto-update” option is turned on > then connect with internet remain the app opened for a while (maybe 5 – 15mins) after certain period of time re-open Microsoft Store > you should saw it was updated to the latest version with all features available.

That’s it. You don’t have to run “sfc /scannow” or DISM command to repair with your Windows OS. This is not an issue related to Windows OS mainly just with the UWP app. So the resolution to fix this issue should be also isolated to the app only. BTW, don’t try to run some cmdlets in PowerShell from the internet or trying to run the “WSReset.exe” most of time it just does work. Remember, this is not some catastrophic issue so always focus on the core issue in your mind.
