As Microsoft unveiled Windows 11 on June 24 2021, the whole Windows Insider Program direction will turned to Windows 11 too. Followed the announcement from Windows Insider Blog that the first Insider Preview Build for Windows 11 will be released on next week(maybe June 30, I’m guessing). And if you are like me joined the Windows Insider Program to keep tracking with new Builds and providing with feedback then you should be aware of those new changes.
Most importantly is that raised minimum hardware requirements for support Windows 11. Specifically on memory and storage. Well, I’m sure a lots of tech people’s machine will meet and exceed this minimum system requirements but it is also a baseline for us, otherwise the machine will result in a degraded experience with some features not work properly.
You can also run the “PC Health Check app” to check whether your PC meets these requirements.
BTW, if your PC already installed the Builds from Dev Channel through June 24 2021, will still allowed to continue installing Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds even if your PC does not meet the minimum hardware requirements. But you have to be aware of that:
- There may be some issues and bugs that impact the experience of Windows 11 and may not get fixed.
- If at any point something goes wrong on one of these PCs that requires having to go back to Windows 10 and will not allowed to upgrade to Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds again. And they will be treated as a new PC and the minimum hardware requirements will be enforced.
- Once Windows 11 is generally available, these PCs will be opted out of flighting and will not be able to receive future Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds. These PCs must clean install back to Windows 10 with the media (ISOs) and then join the Release Preview Channel to preview Windows 10 updates.
Take a look at the below chart for details.
My test machine is get ready for the new Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds to install, let’s say goodby to the Insider Preview Builds 21390 and look forward to the new Builds.
