Finally, I’m passed MD-101 exam on yesterday which is the secondary of exam for certified as Modern Desktop Administrator Associate. I have to say that this is really a tough road to achieve this. Personally, I took almost one year to preparing for both of exams on my own pace. Here I would like to share some tips and suggestions wish it could help you guys if you are aspiring to achieve this certification too.
The whole certification are composed of MD-100 which focused on Windows 10 and MD-101 for covering managing modern desktops. Both of exams are intended for administrators who handle Windows 10 deployment, configuration, secure, manage and monitor devices also applications in an enterprise environment. Also along with Microsoft 365 workloads, non-Windows devices.
When you planning to grab this certification, I strongly suggest you go with MD-100 first then the MD-101. The later one is building on top to the core Windows 10 in a way that you managing both Windows 10 and non-Windows devices in a cloud or hybrid environment.
Some tips share with you guys:
- Always check the exam from Microsoft website to make sure you’re aligned with the skill measures as Microsoft continuing update them.
- If you go with self-placed study, buy the learning materials from Microsoft Press as it is from official one. Certain you could purchase from another source as long as it published by Microsoft.
- If you have enough budget and time then go to booking instructor led training, as they have ready-made environment for you to practice along their lesson.
- Go prepare 1 or 2 physical machine and setup VM with Hyper-V to building the testing environment, then practice more.
- Have a solid understating on the concepts.
- When in doubt asking someone who know it or just post a question on techcommunity.microsoft.com there will have people who can help you figure it out.
- When you’re feeling confident then booking the exam for yourself, if you’re a procrastination person then booking the exam first then you study it.
- Buy a practice test from Microsoft Press Store it could help you to evaluate yourself to find blind spots, then you digest it.
- Eating a good breakfast during the testing day.
- Carefully to managing your time during the exam, as for myself I nearly running of the time when I was reading my last question on the MD-101 exam. What a nightmare!
Another thing here worth to mention is that Microsoft changed the role-based certification validation from 2 year to one year on July 1st, 2021. Once your certification expires within six months, you will have to pass the associated assessment on Microsoft Learn before you can renew it.
